Do I have to pay a windscreen excess?

If you have Standard Comprehensive cover and need to make a claim for any glass in your car, your excess is:

Repair - £10

Replacement - £75.

Windscreen cover is unlimited where an approved windscreen repairer is used. Please note, we do not cover glass sunroofs. You will not be entitled to any more than £125 for windscreen damage, less the excess, if a non-approved repairer is used.

If you do not have Standard Comprehensive cover, you will not have Windscreen cover.

Windscreen claims do not affect your No Claims Discount (NCD). Should you need to make a claim, please call Tesco glass line (National Windscreen) on 0345 677 8888* to arrange.

I understand most of the information. My question is a bit weird but I never was in this situation. So this is why I make an account so I can share my experience and ask before proceeding with a Claim for Windscreen repair (chip) or Replace the Windscreen.

I have not one, not tow, not three but four chips. I know for sure they can be done, because are very small, and are two of them in the driver side, and two of them on the passenger side. Have about 10 - 12 cm between them.

Any advice from you guys?

I will ring on Monday the Tesco Bank Insurance Windscreen team, and ask them to send someone and have a look and fix the problem. Now if they decide they can chip this four chips, will be £10 for one chip, or will be £40 for each chip they fix?

I'll come with an update later on.

Waiting for your opinion.

P.S. - Do not ask how I get them on the windscreen. Is just pure unluck for me. All four of them in one week, and all the time when an LGV pass on my countryside ... Logic "they fixing the road" - Surface with small stones. But some drivers, do not give a "monkey" about.

Hi @mutiosif, this would be dependent on the chips themselves. National Windscreens (our recommended supplier) will only charge one excess if the work is carried out at the same time. However, it may be more suitable to replace the windscreen than repair and this won’t be decided until an assessment is carried out. I hope this clarifies things.

Have booked my windscreen replacement online with National Windscreens. Who and how do i pay the £75 excess to ive not heard from anyone yet, will the fitted have a card machine to do the payment??

Hi Rob, thanks for getting in touch! You would arrange payment directly through National Windscreens at the time of the repair or replacement. You can pay by cash, credit or debit card, I hope this helps to clarify things for you  – Clare

Is this still the correct number to make a claim as we have tried ringing it multiple times, and it is just a recorded message giving alternative phone numbers for loans, credit cards and savings, then saying sorry we can't take your call and cutting off. Been trying to arrange a windscreen repair since Tuesday and can't use our car.

Hi @Luma, I'm sorry about that! Could you confirm if you have Box Insurance or Car Insurance please? - Ainsley

Can I just check you're calling the 0345 677 8888 number, @Luma? I've just tried calling there and it's taken me through to National Windscreen so there doesn't seem to be any issues - Kerry

Yes, that's what we were ringing. Hopefully the problem with it is sorted now and we will be able to get through tomorrow then.
