Pet Insurance

Am I covered for conditions my pet has suffered in the past?

No, unless the problems are totally unrelated. For example, if your dog cut his leg before your policy start date and this healed, and then your dog was unfortunate enough to cut his leg again, this would be classed as a new injury and would be covered under the terms of the policy (subject to the limits, excesses and exclusions that apply). However if the original cut did not heal properly and your pet needed further treatment, this would not be covered. Symptoms exhibited before the policy start date that are subsequently diagnosed are not covered either.

One of our dogs has a plate in his leg. It was fitted 6 years ago and has given him no trouble since. The vet did advice us that in later life he may get arthritic problems..but he is okay at present..would this be seen as a pre existing issue in taking up your top level insurance

Hi @abbottk80, thanks for getting in touch. It's likely that we would consider this as a pre-existing condition, as it could have further implications for your pet in the future. To find out more though, call us on 0345 078 3878, available Mon - Fri: 8am - 8pm, Sat: 9am - 5pm and Sun: 10am - 5pm, and our experts can help :-)

Is this the case even if the previous issue was covered by you? My dog suffered an injury to his back 2.5 years ago. You paid for treatment then and he hasn't had any issues since. I have remained a Tesco customer. If he had an issue relating to that in the future would he be covered if i was still insured with you? If not then I assume there is no benefit to my staying with Tesco when there are cheaper policies around?

Hello @Marty0801, thanks for getting in touch. This is something we would need to check for you over the phone. If you could please call us on 0345 078 3895 (Mon - Fri: 8am - 8pm Sat: 9am - 5pm Sun: 10am - 5pm) my colleagues will assist you further.

Hi,

I'm thinking about insuring my cat.

I have not had him from birth, his owner gave him to me because he adopted our garden and house as his home.

I have had him now for five years but was told he was two when he adopted us.

I do not have his exact birthdate

I do not have any vet information for his first two years.

He has been to the vets to have a tick removed because I wasn't  sure what it was.

And he has been to the vets to treat an abscess caused by a fight with another cat.

Both have been cleared up and have not caused further problems.

I have made sure his jabs are up to date and I flew and worm treat him every 28 days

My question is will my insurance quote be valid not knowing his first two years medical history or exact birthdate?

One of my cats had a few epileptic seizures but hasn’t had one for the past 2 years. Could I disregard this now for insurance purposes . No medication or treat ment required now.

Hi @Chriskho, thanks for getting in touch. This isn't something we'd be able to help with here, however, if you call our Pet Insurance team on 0345 078 3895 (Mon - Fri: 8am - 8pm, Sat: 9am - 5pm, Sun: 10am - 5pm) they'll be able to assist you further - Kelly
