What is a Temporary Security Number and when do I use it?

A Temporary Security Number is a code we use as an additional security measure to confirm your identity if:

 

  • you're registering for Online Banking for the first time

 

  • you've forgotten your login details

 

  • you're using a browser on a computer or mobile device we don't recognise and we don't have your up to date mobile phone number.

 

We'll send the Temporary Security Number to you by text message, if we have your up to date mobile phone number. If we don't, we'll send it by post and you'll have to wait for it to arrive before you can log in to Online Banking.

 

When you receive your Temporary Security Number return to the Registration or Login screen. You'll be asked to enter the Temporary Security Number in full to complete registration or reset your login details.

 

Your Temporary Security Number is valid for 30 days from the date it was requested and can only be used once. If it expires, you'll need to contact us to get a new one.

Hi @Frosty586, please send your full name, DOB and postcode with spaces between characters (l i k e  t h i s) in a private message to @CET so we can send you a TSN via post. If you'd like a TSN sent via text please call us on 0345 300 3511 (24/7).

I am currently working abroad and can't register to update my contact details for a temporary security number. Is it possible to have this sent by email?

hello im trying to acsess my account but when i recived my tesco current account card i could not activate it due to me not been able to see my pin number ive all so changed my address since then too please help me to get my account up and running so i can use it x

Hi @sara4, thanks for getting in touch. As you've changed your address you will need to call us regarding this, you can call our Current Accounts team on 0345 835 3353, available 24/7 and they will be more than happy to help.

Well my last post has been ignored so let me try again. I am working abroad and need a TSN. Can I get it emailed as I don't have access to my U.K. phone or can it be sent to my overseas number? 

Sorry about that, @Royc! You can update your mobile number to your overseas number, but there isn't a guarantee that our text messages will get through to you. We can't send a TSN by email I'm afraid, we can only send this to the address or mobile number we have on file.
