What is a Temporary Security Number and when do I use it?

A Temporary Security Number is a code we use as an additional security measure to confirm your identity if:

  • you're registering for Online Banking for the first time

  • you've forgotten your login details

  • you're using a browser on a computer or mobile device we don't recognise and we don't have your up to date mobile phone number.

We'll send the Temporary Security Number to you by text message, if we have your up to date mobile phone number. If we don't, we'll send it by post and you'll have to wait for it to arrive before you can log in to Online Banking.

When you receive your Temporary Security Number return to the Registration or Login screen. You'll be asked to enter the Temporary Security Number in full to complete registration or reset your login details.

Your Temporary Security Number is valid for 30 days from the date it was requested and can only be used once. If it expires, you'll need to contact us to get a new one.

Happy to see you've been in touch via our CET account @mmiah95 :-)

JJK

Would you send me a temporary security number by post  please. My computer is not being recognized and I do not have a current phone registered with you.

many thanks

Hi @JJK, of course we can get a temporary security number sent to you in the post. Please pop over your DOB and postcode in a private message to @CET so we can get it reset for you.

In the message explaining your situation, include your name, date of birth, postcode and, if you have it, mobile number.

For details like your DOB, postcode and phone number, we ask for you to format it with additional spaces, i.e. A B 1 2 C D, 2 4 1 0 2 0 1 6 and 0 7 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 otherwise the information is removed by the system.

JJK

Hi, thank you for your prompt reply.

here are the details that you requested.

name. [Removed]

DOB.   [Removed]

postcode.  [Removed]

Kind regards

Hi @JJK, I've had to remove your details as they were posted publically. Could you click here and select "send a message" on the CET account and then send us your name, DOB and postcode? We'll then be able to send out the security number in the post.

I do not know why I received the message  addressed to Davedecaen. ( above )  Also the post addressed to me, JJK  , is already being dealt with by your colleague Adam.  Please look into this

Hi @JJK the message @ScottW sent was intended for you. We had to remove your personal details from the public post and as @Davedecaen sent a message under your comment, you would receive a new notification if you're subscribed to this thread. I'm glad to hear that you already have someone dealing with your query.

Hi @Davedecaen, I'm sorry to hear that you've had issues sending a private message to @CET, this was due to your email address not being verified for this site. I've now verified your email so you can follow the instructions above on sending a message to @CET.
