Paying your Credit Card

We’ve got several ways for you to pay your credit card bill, so it’s easy for you to keep up to date.  All of this information is contained within the how to pay section of your monthly statement.

Pay by Direct Debit - You can set up regular payments to your credit card by Direct Debit, which means you won’t have to organise a manual payment each month. To set this up, you need to have registered for Online Banking. Once you’ve done this, follow these steps:

  • Log in to Online Banking, click on your account and then select Manage account in the top right hand corner.
  • Select Make a payment and then Manage Direct Debit. Here you can set up and manage your direct debits
  • If you get an email or text before your first Direct Debit date letting you know your statement is ready, you’ll need to make your first payment by bank transfer or debit card instead. Your Direct Debit should then be active for your next monthly statement.

If you have our Mobile App, you can also set up, manage and cancel your Direct Debit in the App.

Faster payment - You can transfer money from your bank account. Transfer the money to sort code 40-64-15, account number 31310006 and enter your 16-digit credit card number as the reference.

Payments made using the Faster Payment Service are normally made within two hours but can take up to 24 hours. However, they may take longer between 4pm Saturday and 6am Sunday and if we take our service offline for maintenance.

Pay by debit card - When making debit card payments, please allow a minimum of 2 working days before the due date for the payment to clear. You can make debit card payments via Online Banking and our Mobile App. You will need to add the debit card first and then you can make a payment.

Online Banking - To do this, you need to first register for Online Banking. Then follow these steps:

  • Log in to Online Banking, click on your account and then select Manage account in the top right hand corner.
  • Select Make a payment and then Make a debit card payment

Mobile App - To do this you need to first download and set up our Mobile App. Then follow these steps:

  • Log into the Mobile App
  • Select the credit card you want to make a payment on
  • Select the menu icon and then select Pay with debit card

Hi ,

I ve got my credit card on 5th of July, set DD for the full balance , when my debit card will be charged for the first time? On the online page it says payment due date 25th of July but the amount is £0 ...Thanks!

We can't confirm that level of detail via social media @ciprik43. Did your direct debit collect on the 25th? - Ash

It was nothing to collect  because the first statement showed £0 so I will be charged by DD in August

I have tried setting up a standing order from my Halifax bank account to pay £25 a month off my credit card, as there is already a direct debit set up to come out of my husband's account, but it says "Sorry the sort code you've provided doesn't accept credits. Please check that you've entered the number correctly or contact the recipient for an alternative way to pay". So can I not do this?? That is annoying if so!

Hi @ellenelisabeth, thanks for getting in touch and I'm sorry to hear that you've been having problems online. The details above are definitely correct, so you should be able to set up a standing order. Have you tried calling Halifax to see if they can set up the payment over the phone?

I have not received my paper statement- which I need urgently to make s payment in the bank- how do I ensure I get it ASAP... and again each month...

@NickyJ72 I'm sorry to hear about this. Can you please send over a private message including your full name, DOB and postcode? I'll then be able to look into this further for you

Hi, I recieved a replacement card a few weeks ago with a new number on it. I've just paid some of my balance off but have just realised that my payment set up on my bank account is pointing to my old card, not my new one. Will the payment be taken off my new one as I'm assuming they are linked or will I have to make another payment and get the bank to claim back the payment?

Hi @rachierach, please get in touch with our Credit Card team on 0345 300 4278 (24/7) and we can ensure that the payment is allocated to the correct account. I hope this helps

My first ever payment for my CC was due to go out on 1st November but the direct debit had not been activated properly with my bank and I have just received a text message saying i have incurred a £12 late fee.  This was a genuine mistake and I have made the payment via debit card and re set the DD up.  I genuinely thought at the time of setting up my account the DD had been set up properly.  Is there any way of me not incurring the charge as it has been a genuine mistake on my banks or the tesco banking DD set up??? Help please
