Paying your Credit Card

COVID-19 Update
– we would encourage you to make a payment using our Mobile Banking App or Online Banking and help us protect our most vulnerable customers by only contacting us if your call is urgent. Read
our latest customer update for more details.

We’ve got several ways for you to pay your credit card bill, so it’s easy for you to keep up to date. All of this information is contained within the How to Pay section of your monthly statement.

Pay by bank – You can send us a payment directly from your bank.

  • Log in to Online Banking, click on your account and select 'Make a payment' from the drop down menu.
  • Select ‘Pay by bank’, read through the terms and conditions then select ‘Next’ and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Choose your bank from the list and check all your payment details are correct and then select ‘Confirm’ to continue.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your payment request.
  • Your bank will carry out checks on your account when confirming if the payment can be made.

If you don’t see your bank on the list, you will be able to send a faster payment from your bank account to sort code 40-64-15, account number 31310006 and include your Tesco Bank 16 digit credit card number (without spaces) as the reference so we know it’s your payment. Please allow up to 2 working days for the payment to clear.

Pay by Direct Debit - You can set up regular payments to your credit card by direct debit, which means you won’t have to organise a manual payment each month. To set this up, you need to have registered for Online Banking. Once you’ve done this, follow these steps:

  • Log in to Online Banking, click on your credit card and then select 'Direct Debit' in the top right hand corner.
  • Follow the steps to choose your payment amount and enter the account details you want the direct debit to be paid from.
  • If you get an email or text before your first direct debit date letting you know your statement is ready, you’ll need to make your first payment by bank transfer or debit card instead. Your Direct Debit should then be active for your next monthly statement.

If you have our Mobile App, you can also set up, manage and cancel your direct debit in the app.

Pay by debit card - When making debit card payments, please allow a minimum of 2 working days before the due date for the payment to clear. You can make debit card payments via Online Banking and our Mobile App. You will need to add the debit card first and then you can make a payment.

Online Banking - To do this, you need to first register for Online Banking. Then follow these steps:

  • Log in to Online Banking, click on your credit card and then select 'Manage account' in the top right hand corner.
  • Select 'Make a payment' and then 'Make a debit card payment'

Mobile App - To do this you need to first download and set up our Mobile App. Then follow these steps:

  • Log in to the mobile app
  • Select the credit card you want to make a payment on
  • Select the menu icon and then select 'Pay with debit card'

Is the faster payments sort code and account number the same ones to use to set up a standing order to pay a credit card. I don't want to set up a direct debit.

That's correct @lainey1605. If you use the faster payment details above, you can set up a standing order to pay your credit card account. This will not be a direct debit. I hope this helps!

The direct debit for my credit card has not been taken. I have not asked for a payment holiday. Will it be taken shorty or should I pay it?

Hi @DG431, I'm sorry to hear that this hasn't been taken. Can you please send a private message to @Tesco-Bank so we can look into this for you? - Thomas

All these comments/ advise are excellent for anyone who has a Credit Card with any bank/building society etc.

I would also advocate that everyone who has a Credit Card/Store Card sets up a direct debit with your Card provider so you don't need to worry about missing a payment. You can choose what you pay as much as you can afford (minimum payment rule applies), as little or as much as you like each month. Again I would also advise if you can, that you pay your Card "Off In Full" every month unless of course you can't afford to on a big month use of your Card, in which case the minimum payment would always ensure you don't run into Personal Credit Rating issues for missing a payment.

Took advantage of the payment break offer on my Tesco Credit Card as i am now furloughed.  I am now absolutely disgusted to see i have been charged nearly 40% interest on the amount outstanding having always paid my account in full, Whole new meaning to, 'every little helps'.  thanks a lot !!!

Hi nbs10-12,

Sorry to read about the 40% interest - a real kick in the guts at a time when people asking for help. It's obviously a case of "giving with one hand and taking back more with the other".

Unfortunately, all the banks/building societies seem to have all recently changed their interest rates to an horrendous amount which makes them more of a burden than a help when trying to spread the cost.

It would actually be a cheaper option to take out a bank loan to clear the credit card and then repay the loan at a much lower rate of interest, if this is an option that you could pursue I'd recommend looking into it?

tried to send a private email to you to @Tesco-Bank didn’t work??

Hi @Soniasalina, what seemed to be the issue when you where sending a private message? - Ross

Hi There, I have tried to log into my account using the app (credit card account) but it says access to the app has been blocked. When I try to log in via website it says I need to request a temporary security code and to call. I am conscious of calling as it isn't urgent and I do not want to waste time for people that have urgent calls. But I would like access so I can keep an eye on my account too.

Is this something that can be dealt with via this forum or shall I wait until such a time that I can call?
