Please get the online account closure system sorted as a priority, the absence of this facility makes a mockerery of on-line banking.

I'd also like to close my account, if an account can be opened online, why can't it be closed online? Also why on earth do I have to sign up to the community to find out this information, this is supposedly a bank not another form of social media? Why aren't all the FAQs available to account holders without having to join the community? I don't need a community, just a bank that makes things simple, one of the reasons I'm closing this account.

Re the previous post from aeTurner, I beg to differ with your reply to your customer. The only way that I could access the information about account closure was to register for membership of the community - which I did literally minutes ago. I worked in banking for 42 years and Tesco is so far behind the base line with its inflexible online banking capabilities that it is becoming an embarrassment. I have three internet saver accounts which have been dormant for several months and if they were with any other bank I would have been able to close them down online by now. It seems that Tesco Bank's processes are no further advanced than some old-fashioned building societies that continue to plod along with pen and paper! Wake up before you lose customers!

@deandb49 It's unusual that you would have to log in to view this information. The FAQ related to the query above can be found here:

I thought I had closed my savings account a few years ago by withdrawing all of the balance. I was subsequently credited with 0.25p interest which has been showing ever since. I do not want to go to the bother of ringing you, I am hard of hearing, or the expense of a stamp. It must be costing you money to keep sending me communications. How can I close this unwanted account?

I see that everyone else seems to think that Tesco Bank should enable customers to close accounts online. What's even more irritating is when you check the times that lines are open
on https://www.tescobank.com/security/contact-us/ where it says
Our lines are open Monday to Friday 8am to 10pm and Saturday and Sunday 9am - 5pm
and you phone up at 7.30pm on a Wednesday to find lines are closed.
Why would anyone want to continue banking with this sort of organisation?
