I have received a letter telling me I’ve been charged a Default Sum on my Credit Card. What does this mean?

A Default Sum is a fee that has been applied to your account. These are usually applied when a payment has been missed or if your account balance exceeds the agreed credit limit.

I arranged a balance transfer to another credit card which should have happened before my payment was due. Unfortunately, for reasons that the other company didn't specify, they were unable to complete the balance transfer before my due date, (they did it one day later). I was on holiday in France at the time and was unaware of this until I got home. I understand that I have been charged £12 for the late payment but feel it rather harsh to now remove the 0% fixed rate on the remainaing balance that I was unable to transfer to another card.
