How do I activate my Tesco Bank Credit Card?

If you are the primary card holder you can activate your card via the Mobile Banking App, or by calling us on 0345 072 9072* (Minicom 0345 671 0676*). If there are additional card holders on the account then this will also activate their cards.


You will be asked to enter your 16 digit credit card number so please have this with you when you call. If you’ve registered for Online Banking you will also need to enter selected digits from your Security Number.


*This number may be included as part of any inclusive call minutes provided by your phone operator.

How can I activate my Tesco card when I fine do you have to speak to anyone and what information will they ask for please as I find it hard to speak on the done 

Hi @Babygirl62, it's an entirely automated service. As long as you have your 16 digit card number then there will be no issues :)


How long after activating my credit card can I use it? I activated it via the app but just tried to use the card and it was declined.

If the card is activated it should work straight away @Rieley, did you use the contactless functionality? If so, this won't work first time around as you have to use the chip and PIN feature first. 


If it was chip and PIN, can you confirm what message was displayed when the payment was declined?

Hello. i just activated my card and tried to register for online banking but i got a message saying registration could not be completed. I have checked and all details entered are correct. what can i do?


Hi i have received my letter with the pin number but the tab was not stuck down properly so i can not see the pin number at all.

I have tried the white paper and the light, The pin number is still not visaible.

What can i do about it.

Hi @sorme, thanks for getting in touch and I'm sorry to hear that you've had an issue with this. The only solution would be to request a new PIN. However, the process varies depending on your card. Please log in at and, if a banking account, select 'Manage Account', then select 'Request PIN reminder'. You'll then be requested to enter the last 4 digits of your card number, please select 'Yes, send me my existing PIN' then finally 'Submit'. If you have a credit card then, again, please select 'Manage Account' then 'Manage your account' then within the centre ‘Get a Credit Card PIN Reminder'. PIN reminders will arrive within 3-6 business days. I hope this helps! Please get back in touch if you have any further issues.

Can I activate my credit card without the information it’s asking for on my app maybe if I called and spoke to someone I can see on my app I have an available balance and could do with transferring a little bit to another account
