How can I increase or decrease my credit limit?

Requesting an increase is easy, you can do this in the comfort of your home by logging into Online banking or our app.

Approval of any credit limit increase depends on your circumstances. By requesting a credit limit increase you are authorising us to review your credit history and any other relevant information required to process your request, which will not impact your credit score. Requests should be avoided if:

  • Your credit limit has changed in the last 10 months (increase or decrease)
  • You’ve had your credit card for less than 6 months
  • You have more than one credit card in your name
  • You’re over your current credit limit
  • You are in arrears and with our collections team (due to outstanding payments)

Please carefully consider any increase to your credit limit as it may increase the risk of taking on too much debt, which may be costly or take a long time to pay off.

Decreasing your credit limit can be done just as easily by logging into our mobile app and heading to the 'Account Management' section. You can decrease you credit limit at any time, and the request will not impact your credit score. The minimum that you will be able to decrease your limit to is £250, or 105% of your current balance. You will not be able to complete credit limit decrease using online banking.

@Phunkyfifi A scheduled increase may not take place if there is a change to your financial circumstances, or your account conduct has changed. If you can privately message @CET with your full name, DOB and postcode, we can have a look into this for you.

Hi , i am hoping someone can help me? I have had a foundation card since December 2017, i have always paid on time and not gone over my credit limit. I have had an increase in March 2018 from 250-600 then got notified that i would recieve a further increase in June. I then went on to get a letter saying this had changed and therefore this would not go ahead.

I have not missed payments or gone over my limit so could anyone tell me what i am doing wrong as i was hoping to shift a higher interest credit card balance to Tesco.

Thanks

Hi @tezza2019, thanks for your message. I'm afraid we are unable to look into this for you via social media, however if you get in touch with our Credit Card team on 0345 300 4278 (24/7) they may be able to look into this for you. The best option would be to check your credit file, as this should show anything that could adversely affect you receiving credit. I hope this helps!

Thanks Ainsley, I know i have had problems in the past, hence why i applied for the foundation card but i am a bit confused why i have had a credit limit invite and then its declined.

I checked my file and it shows everything upto date i do have some very old adverse there but it did not stop me getting my first increase however this time it seems my invites have stopped.

You may be best to get in touch with our Credit Card team in that case, we can look into this further for you!
