Car Insurance

Have your car insurance needs changed during COVID-19?

We know some of our customers are financially impacted by COVID-19 and are looking for ways to save some money right now.

You can review and update your details if how you use your car has changed by logging in to Your Insurance Account, or by getting in touch with us. If you do want to update your details, there are no admin fees for doing so.

Here's some questions to consider:

  • Are you still using your car to get to and from work?
  • Are you driving the same number of miles?
  • Has the usual place your car is parked overnight changed?
  • Are the same people driving the car?
  • Have you thought about whether you'll need the optional extras on your policy?

Please note, any changes you make may also increase as well as decrease your premium. Also, when things get back to normal, it's your responsibility to ensure your policy is up to date again - otherwise it could invalidate any future claim.

If you do want to make changes, in Your Insurance Account you can:

  • Change your mileage and car use
  • Remove additional drivers they're currently not using the car
  • Amend your overnight parking location

Keeping your car insured - even if you're not using it at the moment, is a legal requirement.

If after updating your details you're still experiencing temporary financial difficulty as a result of COVID-19, please get in touch to discuss alternative payment options.

If you’ve received your car insurance renewal invite but don’t want to renew, please download and complete the form and email it to lapsemyrenewal@tescobank.com. We recommend using a laptop or PC to do this. If you're using your mobile, you will need to save the form to your files before completing the fields and emailing it. If your renewal date is within 48 hours, please contact us.

Managing your Tesco Bank Car or Home Insurance online

Your Insurance Account is the easy way to manage your car and home insurance policy, it's secure and simple to use and available 24/7.

Here's some examples of what you can do:

  • Make changes to your policy such as changing your address or vehicle without incurring an administration fee
  • View, download and then print any of your policy documents
  • Check your renewal price and renew online 
  • Upload and send us documents such as your proof of no claims

 

Home Insurance

  • No fees if you make changes or cancel your policy.
  • New payment plans can be put in place if you fall behind with your payments.
  • You’re covered if you’re now working from home. Your Tesco Bank Home Insurance automatically covers you for clerical, administrative or child-minding duties. You need to get in touch for any other types of work, then subject to approval we’ll make the change and waive any fees for doing so.

Sorry, you may have trouble getting in touch with us right now as our call centre is really busy. If you can avoid calling it will help us get to our most vulnerable customers at this difficult time.

We’re currently trying to prioritise:

  • Customers who have an urgent claim that can’t be submitted online
  • Customers with policies due for renewal within the next 5 days

Making a claim online

You can make a new claim, or submit bills for ongoing claims online.

If urgent you can also contact us on *0345 078 3895, phone lines are open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, however call wait times can be up to 60 minutes at the moment.  

*Calls may be recorded. This number may be included as part of any inclusive call minutes provided by your phone operator.

You may have trouble getting in touch with us right now as our call centre is really busy and opening hours are reduced. However, you can manage your car or home insurance policy online through Your Insurance Account, which is simple to use and available 24/7.

Hi, can anyone help please. We have just taken out car insurance with Tesco, it has been accepted and payment taken with email confirmation. However, when we try to log in to see documents online it says it will text a one time code to a mobile number we no longer have and we can't find any way of changing our personal details and updating

Morning, trying to avoid calling as just need to update my contact details on my recent home insurance renewal which I noticed were incorrect.

Could not see anyway to contact without phoning. Can anyone please advise an e-mail address to update my landline no. please.

can anyone help please? I have tried creating an account but it blocks me out. I need to renew my car insurance and tesco sent me an email asking me to call- after going through options it tells me to do it on-line but i can't. i want to renew but will have to contact Swintons if i can't get through

Hi. Can you help? My insurance is due for renewal this week and I need to add a conviction (and get one removed as it is out of date) I cannot get through on the phone and everywhere I look for information it says I can make changes in my account but there is not the option to do this. I have not been able to get through on the phone and can't be on hold forever due to work! Thanks in advance!

Hey @LJH84, sorry to hear this. Any changes within the renewal cycle need to be made over the phone, I'm afraid. I appreciate the lines are very busy at the moment but my colleagues are answering as quickly as they can. Hi, I need to cancel my car insurance. Been told to do this online when I rang however when I log it says I can’t do it online. I was then told to try this forum?

To cancel a policy mid-term, we ask that you call our Car Insurance team on 0345 246 2895 (Mon - Fri: 9am - 6pm, Sat: 9am - 2pm) where an adviser can do this for you and explain any refunds due. To stop a renewal of a policy, you can fill in the fill in the form 'lapse my renewal' using the link below.
