Where has this gone? I used to be able to get to it by going to 'Manage my card' and then downloading my transactions as a .ofx file but this useful feature seems to have been silently dropped.
I don't want to download as .csv or .tsv. The software I use works best with .ofx.

I've just experienced the same problem, there appears to be no solution

Me too. This was a most useful tool as I am still using Microsoft Money and can't import either a .csv or .tsv file to it.
Tesco, please reinstate this function. -

Hi there, thanks for getting in touch. I'm afraid that this is no longer an option via the online banking. I will log your comments as some feedback which we always use to improve our products and services. Apologies for any disappointment.
-
10-05-21, 12:34tiffer
Also a problem for me - I was using qif export.
Not sure why dropping support for published specifications for your own non-standard formats is seen like an improvement. Especially given how challenger banks are really doing well in this space. -
10-05-21, 13:37JoeC
Apologies @tiffer, we only support .csv and .tsv formats for downloading transactions. I will pass your comments on as feedback.
-
10-05-21, 13:59theron
Sorry, yes it was .qif format, not .qfx.
Why was this feature removed?
The remaining .csv/.tsv non-standard formats only allow the last 90 days of transactions to be downloaded. Before we could specify the transactions we wanted on a statement by statement basis. -
10-05-21, 14:07JoeC
Hi @theron, I'm afraid that since Summer 2020 the only options have been .csv and .tsv after our online banking was updated. We regularly update our online services so they work smoothly and are user-friendly. I'm sorry that a service you found useful was removed, I will get this logged as feedback which we are constantly reviewing to improve our systems and services.
-

@JoeC
Sorry, that's not true. The .qif downloads were available last week. It is only just the last couple of days after you removed the 'manage my account' link that we can no longer get to the download page that had this feature on it. -
10-05-21, 14:54JoeC
@theron Apologies, 'Manage Account' was an older part of the website and has been removed now as you say. The .qif format has not been available on our new My Overview page during this time.
-
10-05-21, 15:17theron
OK, I'll keep an eye out for 'older parts' of the website and try not to use them in case they vanish !
It's far from ideal but there seem to be a number of free online .csv to .qif converter tools that I'll now investigate to try and work around this problem.
Thank you for responding and passing our comment on. -
10-05-21, 17:03silverreader
Theron, if you find a satisfactory solution, eg. a .csv to .qif converter, it would be good to know which one.
But it would be better if Tesco took note of these observations and reinstated the "Manage My Account" button. Another example of an "improved" service which is actually worse than before. -
10-05-21, 17:23theron
First step figured out.
For some reason they've decided to encode the newer .csv/.tsv downloads in the UTF16-LE encoding. I.e. every character is encoded as 2 bytes. So the first step before you can import these files into a standard .qif converter you have to convert them back to a single-byte encoding. Open the downloaded file in Notepad, then go to Save As and choose 'ANSI' from the encoding drop-down, then save the file.
Then you'll be able to use one of the online tools to convert the file to .qif format. Of course by using one of these online services you may be uploading your transactions to a 3rd party so you should be wary of security at this point ! If you can find a command line script then that will probably be safer. -

I looked at a couple of tools but the fact that Tesco have for some reason chosen to have inflow and outflow both as positive numbers (with a "credit/debit flag") it's not a simple mapping. Nice and user friendly...
On the up side I'm sure the code-base is simpler and cheaper to maintain, which I'm sure is an excellent metric for management.
The decision is now if it's worth writing a converter or finding a new bank. -
10-05-21, 21:19theron
@tiffer Yep, I had spotted that.
So, here we go. I've knocked up a quick project on GitHub called TCCQIF. Rough and ready but seems to do the job. Feed it a Tesco CC format .tsv file and a get a .qif out.

Like others I'm really disappointed the .qif download has disappeared and that the Manage Account section of the website has been removed.
I'm sure there are plenty of people still using Microsoft Money.
Can you please explain why you've decided to remove this functionality? -

Looks really useful, but I get the following error when compiling:
tccqif.cs(1,29): error CS0234: The type or namespace name 'FileIO' does not exist in the namespace 'Microsoft.VisualBasic' (are you missing an assembly reference?)
Please ignore me if this is an error on my part. :-) -
11-05-21, 21:46theron
@MartinC Ah, I missed a parameter on the command line. Try this:
csc /t:exe tccqif.cs -r:"C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\.NETFramework\v4.8\ Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll"
I've also added a compiled version to the repository. -

For the FEEDBACK - I am another customer that is very annoyed that the ability to download to .QIF format has been removed since 1 May 2021 (not last Summer).
The new csv format does not work with my finance software because it you have decided to have one amount field which makes no distinction between positive and negative amounts and relies on a separate field to identify what it is. I'm sure this must be the only place in the Tesco Bank where they don't either have separate fields for debits and credits or a single signed field - why have you made it complicated.
Also the fact that the download dumps the previous 90 days worth of transactions with no ability to filter or limit the range means de-duplicating a load of transactions every single time.
I hope more thought has gone into the design of the rest of your IT systems than has gone into this customer facing feature. -

Thanks everyone for the feedback, I have collated the above comments and passed it on to the team.

Although this option is no longer available on Tesco Credit Cards it's still an option on their current account!!!
-
12-05-21, 20:22Silver99
Really disappointed to lose .QIF Microsoft Money support too. Also the 'new' section is not as up to date as the 'old' section so transactions that appear as cleared on the iPhone app tonight are still pending on the web version. Not a great experience when you check your transactions daily ☹

This is a real issue not only with Microsoft Money - i use Banktivity and the CSV function is not working today and the ability to refine the detail is useless. what is the resolution Tesco??
-
13-05-21, 10:19kerrysheehan42CSV download not working
Since the change not allowing OFX downloads on credit card account, i cannot download CSV as it says that page not available - what is happening tesco?
-

sorry but I'm another customer who used these functions - please reinstate ASAP.
Thanks. -

I'm yet another user who is sorely disappointed that this option has gone. I use qif to import into Moneydance, some 50-100 transactions a month.
Looks like I'm now forced into a corner with manipulating files to get the data I need.
It's not rocket science to reinstate the option, and I can't think any analysis was done before summarily removing the option.
Unless there's some news about reinstatement (in some form or other) shortly then this customer with a 5 figure spend per annum is going elsewhere. -

@JoeC
Hi, since Monday 10th May 2021 I have not been able to download my Credit Card account transactions. I used to use .cvs but now the whole option has disappeared can you advise me on when the feature will return. Thanks John -
13-05-21, 17:34ReeceLH
I too used the OFX download weekly and sometimes more often.
None of the offered file formats suit my need.
Why Tesco take something away that doesn't cost anything to provide?
And clearly you didn't do your homework! MS Money may not have been available to buy new for many years now but many people continue to use it, me included because nothing else is as good despite its age.
Please reinstate the manage my account button and the OFX download, otherwise I suspect you will lose quite a number of Tesco credit card users! -
13-05-21, 19:02b-sTransaction download issue
Where has the option to use the old interface and the simple current period only transaction download in csv format gone?
I cannot find a way of downloading my current period only transactions using the download page. This is a real issue as I now cannot simply check my transactions simply and easily as I could drop in the old csv file format into a checking page on my own spreadsheet to quickly balance my figures.
The new download shows either debit or credit but does not show credits as negative figures, this now means a lot more work to balance transactions
Need help please I cannot get through to customer services or technical to help as the phone has now been on for over 30 minutes!

@JoeC I had the same issue with First Direct/HSBC a while ago but they restored it after customer complaints.

Finally, Its taken 4 dedicated hrs but have persevered so Tesco here goes....
WHAT THE HELL!!!! ? you have removed ofx without a by-your-leave. Every 2 mins I confronted with emails and text about you're services and offers.
As a personal CC customer I have stuck with you for 12 yrs, even after you diluted the clubcard points. Why?! coz I like the convenience of downloading my 250+ p/m transation into my on PC budget account via the OFX function.
Reinstate the OFX file or I'm off to Halifax and I'm taking my 2K a month spend. Ps - I already have the H card; so its just a switch to the 'how to pay' feature in for online shops and switch the wifes card.
Feel like I've been dumped...SHAME on you -
14-05-21, 05:31NavyNick
You and I both. Hope they reinstate it soonest or I like many of you will be moving my account elsewhere. I have been using Microsoft Money since 2000 with no problems even thought Microsoft no longer support it. It still works well with my Natwest account and I have always used it with my Tesco card up to now. Get with it TESCO and listen to your customers!!!
-

Tesco, if you are considering reinstating the OFX/QIF download option, please make sure we also have the option to download transactions since the last statement as well - this function was available on the 'Old' version.. Downloading 90 days may be useful for some, but not with Microsoft Money where you balance the credit card monthly as it will overwrite previously reconciled transactions. TIA
-
14-05-21, 09:09silverreader
Yes, I'll be off too if this isn't fixed. I am already researching alternative credit cards.

Hey @Kerrysheenan42, sorry to hear that. Can I check if you are using a bookmark to login to your online banking? Can you navigate to Tescobank.com and sign in? If you try and access the file it should now work.
-
14-05-21, 09:43rmh56
Well it works for me and it create a file which I can open and look at with Excel. HOWEVER.. when i try and import this using Banktree (this is an excellent replacement for MS Money) it shows no data.
.ofx was SO much better! Please re-instate this... -
14-05-21, 09:46rmh56
Can I add my voice to the OFX request? It is SO much better.
I can't believe that it's not beyond the capability of your excellent IT team to add this as an option...please.. -

I'm afraid that there is no plans to reinstate OFX/QIF downloads on online banking, we recently updated the platform which means that we are no longer able to support these formats. I do appreciate that this may not have been the answer that you all hoped for and have recorded every comment above as feedback. I have also moved this thread to the feedback section of the Community and merged the other two threads on the same subject into this one.
