With Android Pay coming to the UK in the next few months, does Tesco Bank have any plans to support this? http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/03...etail-support/ Same for Samsung Pay which should also launch this year?

I'm hoping it will and we won't have to wait for months like Apple users did.
Google have had a mobile payment service for years under the Google Wallet brand. So it's not as if this is a surprise that the rebranded Android Pay is FINALLY making its way here. -

Hi
We don't currently plan to support Android Pay, however we are always looking at making banking as convenient as possible and we will keep listening to customers to develop the services we offer. We will always let our customers know about our new products and services first – so it is worth keeping an eye on our website. -

Andorid Pay launches in the UK today. With the recent reduction in Club Card Points for Tesco Credit Card purchases and Tesco not supporting Android Pay, it looks like it's time to look at other cards.

I'm really hoping that this is a stock answer and that Tesco Bank will be supporting Android Pay before too long. It was disapointing to find I couldn't add my card to the newly launched UK service this morning. -

Now that Android Pay has launched in the UK. Please could you confirm whether it will be supported in August with contactless and Apple Pay?

Any changes to the Tesco position since the original reply? Not supporting Android pay would be a deal breaker for me, which would be a shame as I've not long joined Tesco bank.

Likewise, very disappointed, as a very long-term Tesco card holder, to see Tesco are not supporting Android Pay and a short sighted decision on their part I think. Fortunately I have an HSBC card that is supported so have registered and will be using that instead. Come on Tesco, get ahead of the curve for once after your recent travails !!

Just to add my support for this. Why would you exclude Android users from contactless mobile transactions when you do support Apple pay? This make no sense. There are more android users than Apple in the UK. Not supporting means losing revenue potentially to those customers wanting a mobile payment solution. Other CC companies such as Barclaycard currently offer this function so I use them currently even though I would prefer to use my Tesco card.

Can we push this through a little quicker? It now launched and like people have said, it's hardly new news and has been around in the USA for ages.

Gah, I've barely had a credit card account for a month and you seriously can't support something basic like this? My first credit card ever is with you guys, and within less than a month you drop this bombshell? Well, I guess I'll be stuck in 2007 for a few months at least, then I'll be able to close my credit card account with you guys and move on to an account that isn't run by luddites.

19-05-16, 05:30WavewatcherRe: Android Pay / Samsung Pay
Come on guys this is 2016. Give me a contactless card or android pay for goodness sake, it's so embarrassing at the checkout having to say no I haven't got contactless my credit card provider is stuck in the slow lane..... Beep beep beep beep.....PIN verified zzzzzzzzzzzz.

19-05-16, 09:43gjrRe: Android Pay / Samsung Pay
Much like what everyone else has said, I think it would be a big mistake not to support Android Pay. I expect it'll be the same as it was with Apple Pay, where you say you won't support it and then suddenly one day support is added without any warning. It would be nice to have a definite confirmation as to whether or not this is going to happen so that I can make a decision on moving my credit card elsewhere. If Android Pay is going to be supported then I'll be staying - if not, there isn't anything keeping me here.

Just adding my voice to the 'For' argument. I have savings with Tesco, a credit card and I use Bosst a lot. Please allow me to add Android Pay to that list.

Just bumping this up in the hope of an official response..

If this isnt supported then your card goes in the bin, simple choice.
-
24-05-16, 08:35markyfunRe: Android Pay / Samsung Pay
C'mon Tesco sort it out! As others have said, you'll lose business by not supporting this. I use my Tesco CC as my default card but am now looking investigating switching to another card provider so I can use Android Pay.

Hi, I for one will be getting another card, one that supports Android Pay.

Well said, I will be moving to a more open and progressive bank

Hi there, I am a loyal and longtime Tesco Bank customer. I just used Android Pay in one of Tesco's stores but had to use an alternate credit card with this brilliant app. Personally, I'd love to register my Tesco Bank Credit Card for use on Android Pay but from reading this thread it appears that this is unlikely. I hope your product development team monitor this site and view your customers appetite for this functionality. Your mobile app is great so I'm disappointedTesco are not early adopters or Android Pay. Meantime, I'll forgo my Clubcard points for the convenience of using Android Pay; however, longer term I guess there is now one less reason to pop into Tesco.

Hi Everyone!
Firstly, I'd like to thank you all for your comments and we are looking at each and every one of them to see what our customers are looking for.
Currently, as some of you may already know, we aren't supporting Android Pay for our accounts. This may change in the future, and it's comments like these and the ones we've had on Facebook, Twitter and over the phone that will contribute towards future decisions.
Please continue to let us know what features you'd like to see on your accounts, and if there are any updates, you'll see them first on The Community. -
25-05-16, 11:47PawPawRe: Android Pay / Samsung Pay
Customers have been asking for this for quite some time yet still your reply is the same generic "we are looking at each and every one of them to see what our customers are looking for." Its very clear to see that we the customer are looking for contactless pay and android pay support just like most of the other big players... Why are Tesco dragging their heels on this...Please confirm you are or are not going to support this requested feature so your customers can then decide if they wish to stay or move on from Tesco Bank. We do not need generic replies that offer little to no help.. Its a simple yes or no that we require .No doubt this will be ignored as Tesco seem to have forgotten the vaule of their customers both in store and via this outdated banking service...I dont want to change my card to a competitor but if Tesco continue to ignore the future then i need to move on with a more dynamic banking system. Now can you offer a better response ?

Many thanks for your encouraging response - here's hoping Android Pay support won't be too long coming :-)

Will also be looking for an alternative credit card that supports Android Pay, debit cards, trade cards, loyalty cards are all used on phone now, have to carry wallet just for Tesco credit card.

26-05-16, 19:07JohndotcomRe: Android Pay / Samsung Pay
Basically a Android pay isn't wanted by the majority, it was a late joiner with Apple Pay way ahead, you have to base your credit card at the widest market, which unfortunately isn't Android and all these different systems cost issuers money, and eventually the user, which others aren't willing to pay for. There are cards that accept android and of course all cards accept Apple.
-
27-05-16, 08:50AlRe: Android Pay / Samsung Pay
According to the Dec 15 figures, Android has a 52% market share, as opposed to 39% for Apple here in the UK.So I think Android Pay is wanted by the majority. I agree, that banks have to support a mutlitude of systems, Apple Pay, Android Pay, Qkir, and soon Samsung Pay. However, this has got to be cheaper fin the long run than issuing plastic credit cards. Even if it isn't - it's what the customer now wants. Admittedly Google concentrated too much on getting Android Pay running in the US whilst ignoring the rest of the world, which was a shame. Tesco knew it was coming though, and should have been in discussions with Google long before now. After all, HSBC and others have already signed up. On top of that, I still cannot believe that my recently issued replacement Tesco card is STILL NOT CONTACTLESS. A technology which has been around since Jan 2010. Best wishes,Al.

There are cards that accept android and of course all cards accept Apple. This isn't an Apple v Android discussion! Clearly you are an Apple Fan, good for you, I too have Apple product and they are great. However, as the previous post shows your facts are wrong and I'm not sure you can back up with fact your comments on Android Pay not being wanted by the majority. Also not all cards support Apple either, for example Barclaycard don't support Apple pay, so again you are wrong. This is about Tesco supporting features with their cards that many people want, as is clear from most of the comments in this thread. Currently Tesco are behind the times with both Android Pay support and also contactless in general. I like the fact I can collect points on my card with Tesco, however they are making it hard for me to justify staying with them if they don't support features that I want. Hopefully the amount of support this thread is getting by most people will give them incentive to bring their product features up to date soon. -
28-05-16, 10:22phillRe: Android Pay / Samsung Pay
I just want to add my +1, I will more likely use my other cards. Though my tesco card being my only credit card I will use it for larger purchases for the protection. To the other people beating on Tescos, are we sure Tescos have a say in the matter? It wouldn't supprise me if Google went with some kind of exclusivity deal, or maybe a phased roll out (thats something they do with their phone updates).

31-05-16, 09:35chaddman30Re: Android Pay / Samsung Pay
It'd be great if Tesco Bank did allow for Android Pay. As someone who has used Tesco Bank on Apple Pay it feels much more secure paying a retailer (be it in bricks & mortar or online via an app).
I do wish Tesco (and that comes from an employee) would install contactless terminals in more stores too. -
31-05-16, 10:15predgingtonRe: Android Pay / Samsung Pay
Another +1 for android pay for me. Unfortunately none of my cards are contactless at the moment. I was hoping that next tesco card coming soon would be but sounds like that's unlikely.

31-05-16, 19:24jaygRe: Android Pay / Samsung Pay
I suspect not. I suspect Google transaction fees may be a little unpalatable... particularly given the range of banks not on the launch
-
01-06-16, 14:45predgingtonRe: Android Pay / Samsung Pay
As I understand it google do not charge transaction fees: https://support.google.com/androidpa...88971?hl=en-GB More likely, given some of their previous actions, that Apple have negotiated periods of exclusivity with various institutions.
-
01-06-16, 19:06andyf941Re: Android Pay / Samsung Pay
it's neither. You're right, Google are not charging but Apple do not have an exclusivity deal with the issuers . Tesco bank need to enroll for Visa's tokenisation service (for their debit card) and the MasterCard equivalent for their credit card. A commercial decision, or, judging by the interest on this thread, a customer service decision. To add to my frustration, the bank I left a couple of months ago do support Android pay, Tesco have a period of time to indicate they will also support it or I'll be making my way back. The only reason I don't go now is that credit searches and new account openings hit your credit rating for a short period of time. Tesco, you need to check out the industry figures for the popularity of contactless/mobile payments, they are taking off astronomically. As a relatively new bank I would have hoped you would be more nimble and customer orientated than some of the others.
-
06-06-16, 20:14andyf941Re: Android Pay / Samsung Pay
Sorry Tesco, but I'm jumping ship. I'm using the account switching service to move to a bank that supports Android Pay. The non-support of Android Pay is the sole reason I'm leaving Tesco bank. Please feel free to use this post as customer feedback, hopefully then you may support Android pay sooner rather than later. I hope for the others posting on here you make the decision soon. RegardsAndy

08-06-16, 15:54FlobberRe: Android Pay / Samsung Pay
I'm very disappointed that rather than a "We don't support it yet but are listening" it was a solid "We have no plans to support it, but we're listening". They would probably mean the same thing but the way it has been worded really sounds like it's unlikely to happen. Given the reduction in clubcard points I'm also looking at other providers who do support Android Pay on their credit cards as it's so useful and can only use it on my debit card at the moment
-
10-06-16, 13:02joannamccRe: Android Pay / Samsung Pay
I’m sorry the wording suggested that it would be unlikely to happen, we do consider and listen to all customer feedback. We of course want to know how our customers use their accounts and also to make things as easy as possible for them.
-
17-06-16, 05:38jpfadamsRe: Android Pay / Samsung Pay
Please can you support either contactless for the credit card or Android pay ASAP (ideally both). If this doesn't happen soon I'll probably look to switch my primary credit card elsewhere wrote:

As with others you can guess with my user name what i intend to do as there is little or no movement to embrace the future. Well actually its not the future its here now. People want to use contactless payment either by card or phone.
