• What is Strong Customer Authentication (SCA)?

Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) is a new set of regulations around confirming your identity when you pay for something online. Giving you greater protection when accessing your accounts online or via the Mobile App, paying for things online or using contactless payments.

    What will change?

    • When you pay for something online we may ask you to authenticate the payment to check it’s really you
    • If you have our Mobile Banking App we will send you a push notification asking you to authenticate the payment
    • If you don’t have our Mobile Banking App we will send a one-time passcode to your mobile or home number to check it’s really you

So, while you sort out the details of this, can you address the use case of the second card holder?
The second card holder has the same card number.. how will you know who to contact?
If my wife is making a purchase and you contact me - and I'm not with her - how is that going to work and how patronising does that seem?
You'll need to store two mobile numbers and - somehow - work out which card is being used.

Hi @rmh56, thanks for getting in touch. We'll be able to identify which card is being used, and provided we hold the correct mobile number for your additional cardholder the one-time passcode will be sent by text to them for their purchase. You can login to your Online Banking account to check the mobile numbers we hold for you and your additional cardholder are up to date. If you don't use Online Banking then please call us on 0345 300 4278 (Mon - Fri: 8am to 9pm, Sat - Sun: 8am - 6pm) to update your contact numbers.
