I've had an accident and my renewal is due soon, what does this mean for me?

I've had an accident that wasn’t my fault:

If you don’t have protected no claims, a non-fault claim can affect your no claim discount. This will happen if the claim is still open when you renew, and we're still waiting to settle the claim with the other person's insurance company.

It will reduce in accordance to our step back scale:

If you have protected no claim discount, this won’t be affected by a claim unless you've made more than 2 claims in the policy year (or in any three year period if you choose to renew with us). If you exceed this number of claims, you'll lose your no claim discount protection and it will reduce in line with the step back scale shown below:

When we recover all of our claims costs back from the person involved in the incident, your no claim discount will be reinstated to what it was before the claim, or increased if you haven't reached the maximum of 9 no claim discount years.
