Why might I be ‘at fault’ for an incident, when I don’t think I was responsible?

This happens when we're unable to recover money we paid out for your claim from the other driver or person involved in the incident. This can happen even though we don't think you were responsible for the incident. If your vehicle was stolen or we can’t identify the person at fault, we have to record your claim as 'at fault'.

A fault claim will show on your policy history and will affect your renewal quote and no claim discount unless it was protected. You’ll need to let any insurer know if you've had a claim and whether it was at-fault or non-fault when you renew your policy.
