What are Contactless Cards and how do they work?

Contactless Cards can be used to make quick, easy and secure payments for purchases under £45.
There's no need for a PIN or a signature, simply touch your card on a Contactless card reader.
A new contactless limit of £45 (increased from £30) became available in UK retailers from 1 April 2020. Tesco Bank customers with contactless cards can now use them for payments up to £45 anywhere the limit has been increased. As the change has been introduced quickly, it may take some time before it can be applied everywhere so check the limit with the retailer.
Before you can use your card to make a contactless payment, you'll need to have activated it and used it with your PIN either at an ATM or to buy something in store.
