We aim to update the MID (Motor Insurance Database) database as quickly as possible after you purchase a policy or change your details. This is usually done within 48 hours but can take up to seven working days.
Data from the MID is used by police to help combat uninsured driving and enforce motor insurance law. It can also be used by insurance companies to obtain details of other drivers when they have been involved in an accident. If your details haven’t been entered on the MID you may be stopped by the police. There’s a risk that your vehicle could be seized if the correct details haven’t been registered.
For private individuals it’s the responsibility of the driver to ensure they have the correct level of cover and the responsibility of the insurance provider to get details of a policy or changes onto the MID.
